Prof. Marc Bonten reacts on use of bacteriophage against AMR

25 October 2017

Prof. Marc Bonten, chairman of the focus area Infection & Immunity at UMC Utrecht, and board member of NADP, wrote a blog on the use of bacteriophages to treat infections caused by resistant bacteria. His blog is posted on the website ‘reflections on infection prevention and control’, which can be found here.

In his blog, Prof. Bonten comments on the observed positive effects of phages and phage lysins in topical applications. However, thorough clinical studies demonstrating broad effectivity of phage therapy in (systemic) infections have not yet been performed. Nevertheless, the concept is highly interesting and needs further research.
